"Danone Announces €20 Million Investment in Punjab Plant Over Next Four Years"
Danone announced plans to invest an additional €20 million to expand its specialised nutrition facility in Lalru, Punjab, over the next four years. Alongside this investment, the company is launching a three-year program aimed at training around 5,000 smallholder dairy farmers in sustainable farming techniques to enhance milk yields, improve cattle welfare, and boost farmer incomes.
"India is a key growth market for Danone," said Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of Danone. "We are committed to fostering inclusive growth with our farming partners and local manufacturing. This program aligns with Danone’s long-standing support for local farmer communities in India."
The farmer development initiative will be implemented in partnership with the BAIF Development Research Foundation and will focus on animal health, manure management, livestock care, and community engagement.
Vikram Agarwal, Chief Operations Officer of Danone, highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting, "We source specialised nutrition-grade milk from over 5,000 small dairy farmers across 100 villages near our Lalru plant. This partnership will be crucial in helping farmers improve both yields and livelihoods, while supporting Danone’s capacity expansion and ensuring a steady supply of high-quality milk."
Danone's efforts aim to drive mutual growth, supporting the local dairy community and expanding production at its Punjab facility.
