Pak to get $18 mn for capacity building

Faisalabad: World Bank will provide $18 million for capacity building and support to federal institutions involved in water resources planning, management and development.

Masood Ahmed, task team leader said that the component includes among other things support for building human resources and institutional capacity in federal institutions, and support for preparing studies, strategies, and plans for improving water resources planning and management, which will have the following sub-components, he added.

Under Component A1, World Bank will provide $5.0 million for Capacity Building and Support to Ministry of Water and Power (MoWP). This component will cover strengthening of the Indus System's institutional and regulatory framework.

Under Component A2, IDA will provide US $6.0 million for Capacity Building of and Support to Indus River System Authority (Irsa). This component would strengthen Irsa's capacity to carry out its role as envisaged in the 1991 Water Apportionment Accord.

Under Component A3: IDA will provide $6.0 million for Capacity Building of and Support to IPDF.

This component will build capacity of the Infrastructure Project Development Facility (IPDF), in particular the new water cell which is responsible for developing financing strategies for water sector programs and hydropower infrastructure and with providing advice on a variety of financial, fiscal, legal and regulatory issues.
