Pipeline Laying Work at Jakkampudi Picks Up Pace.
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner C Harikiran said recently steps were being taken for supply of drinking water to the Jakkampudi Housing Colony by laying the pipeline under the railway track and work would be completed in about three months.
The commissioner, who visited the colony, said that more than Rs. 2.77 crore was paid as the way-leave charges to the Railway for laying of pipelines under the railway track near Jakkampudi and obtained the permission of the Railway Department for the purpose. He said the VMC was taking steps for speedy completion of the pipeline work.
He said that the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 4.40 crore under JNNURM-BSUP scheme for laying 450 mm diameter pipeline from Head Water Works to the Jakkamapudi Housing Colony and Rs. 14.6 crore was sanctioned for laying of the 600 mm diameter pipeline for the underground drainage (UGD) project.
He also said that a 1500-KL capacity elevated level surface reservoir (ELSR) was already constructed at the housing colony.
While 8,608 G+3 houses were sanctioned under the JNNURM scheme at Jakkampudi, the VMC had completed the construction of 7,040 houses and 1,568 houses are in various stages of progress.
Hari Kiran asked the officials to see that the contractors of the housing scheme expedited the construction works and asked them to see that the construction of the buildings related to community hall, elementary school, fish market and high school was completed as soon as possible.
The VMC commissioner also inspected the progress of construction works of the 20 MLD and 8 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) in the locality.
