PM Modi to Open Key Meerut South–Modipuram Segment of Delhi–Meerut Rapid Rail.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Meerut South–Modipuram section of the Delhi–Meerut rapid rail corridor on February 22, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Thursday after reviewing preparations at the Hindon civil terminal.

The new 23-km stretch will complete the Meerut arm of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. Currently, trains operate on 55 km of the 82 km corridor, running between New Ashok Nagar in east Delhi and Meerut South. With the inauguration of this section, services will extend from New Ashok Nagar to Modipuram, as the Sarai Kale Khan terminal in Delhi is yet to open.

Once the full route is operational, passengers will be able to travel from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut in approximately 55 minutes. The Meerut South–Modipuram segment passes through densely populated areas including Begumpul, MES, and Partapur. Trial runs on this stretch began in February last year and were completed by June 2025.

Delays in opening the section had drawn criticism from commuters, particularly those in central Meerut, who were forced to rely on costly last-mile transport. “Every morning I take a shared auto to Meerut South, which takes 35 to 40 minutes. Once the services start, I can simply walk to the station and save almost an hour to travel to Delhi,” said Asim, a resident near Begumpul station.

The rapid rail corridor has been inaugurated in phases. The first section, between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot, opened in October 2023, followed by Duhai–Modinagar North in March 2024, Modinagar North–Meerut South in August 2024, and Sahibabad–New Ashok Nagar in January this year.

During a review meeting with divisional-level officials, CM Adityanath directed all departments to complete preparations on schedule. “The opening of this section will not only strengthen the regional transportation system but also play a significant role in the overall development of Meerut and surrounding districts,” he said. He also instructed authorities to ensure tight security, streamlined traffic management, sanitation, and adequate public facilities, emphasizing coordination among administrative, police, and civic agencies.

Earlier, the CM reviewed law and order and key development projects in Noida at a high-level meeting in Sector 38. Officials were directed to maintain strict vigilance, ensure timely execution of development works, remove project bottlenecks, uphold transparency, and provide prompt redressal of public grievances to boost investor confidence and support rapid urban growth.
