Port Blair airport to get new terminal building by October.

A new terminal building at the Port Blair airport - named the Veer Savarkar International Airport - will be built by the Airports Authority of India by October this year, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

The new terminal is being constructed considering the surge in passenger traffic at the airport. The building will have three floors comprising lower ground, upper ground and first floor.

The new terminal building is being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 707.73 crore. The total built-up area will be 40,837 square metre.

The new terminal building will be capable of handling 1,200 passengers during peak hours - as against the 400 at present - and about 40 lakhs passengers annually. Additional parking bays are also being constructed at the airport.

More than 80 percent of the project work has been completed, authorities said. The development project is targeted to be completed by October 2022. This is the main airport of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
