Puravankara Limited (BSE: 532891), one of India's leading real estate developers, has been honored with the Achievement Award for Creating Social Development and Impact at the 15th edition of the Vishwakarma Awards, hosted by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC). The CIDC is a joint initiative by Niti Aayog and the Indian construction industry, designed to recognize innovation and excellence in the sector.
Puravankara's award-winning effort is centered around its collaboration with the Biome Environmental Trust in rejuvenating heritage wells as part of the "Million Wells for Bengaluru" campaign. This campaign aims to revitalize the tradition of well-digging and support water conservation in Bengaluru, a city facing a depleting water table. The award recognizes Puravankara's significant contribution to environmental sustainability and community empowerment.
Commenting on the award, Ashish Puravankara, Managing Director of Puravankara Limited, expressed gratitude, stating, "This is a humbling experience that reflects our unwavering commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. We are honored to be recognized for our efforts to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people and the communities we serve."
Since 2021, Puravankara has played a pivotal role in restoring over a dozen heritage/recharge wells in Bengaluru and surrounding areas. These include rejuvenation of an existing well at Rest House Park on Crescent Road, two wells in Lalbagh, and three new wells dug at ACF, Madiwala, Bengaluru. In 2022-2023, the company rejuvenated six open heritage wells and a Kalyani in Hunsamaranahalli TMC limits in Yelahanka Taluk, providing water to thousands of residents. A well opposite the aviation academy pumps 2 lakh litres daily, serving the Shaktinagar, Muneshwar Camp, and Sonnappanahalli municipal wards.
The wells have also been adorned with captivating Warli art, turning them into vibrant cultural landmarks. These wells have become gathering spots for local communities, embodying the intersection of tradition and progress. The use of a pulley system ensures efficient water usage.
In addition to well rejuvenation, the campaign has facilitated the installation of rainwater harvesting systems at Sonappanahalli School in Bengaluru and Vidyaprabodhini School in Goa, with a collective capacity to harvest up to 33 lakh litres of water annually.
The CIDC Vishwakarma Awards celebrate organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to development and impact in the construction industry. Puravankara's award-winning efforts are a testament to its commitment to creating a positive social and environmental impact in the regions where it operates.
