Regional Training Centre coming up at Samayanallur.
A Regional Training Centre (RTC) for health and family welfare, the first of its kind in southern Tamil Nadu, which is under construction on the premises of the Samayanallur Block Primary Health Centre, will begin functioning from March 2016.
During a press tour organised for media persons in the district by the district administration, Deputy Director of Health S. Senthilkumar said that the health centre, which was being constructed at a cost of Rs.6 crore, would host training programmes and meetings for doctors and healthcare personnel working across government hospitals in southern districts.
“There are five other such facilities across the State and this is the first for southern Tamil Nadu. Alongside the regional training centre, a new skill lab building is also being built which will host two training programmes and courses offered to anganwadi workers in the district so that they can qualify as village health nurses,” he said.
Landscaping is also being carried out on the PHC premises, which houses Siddha and dental clinics, a blood storage and transfusion centre and other general facilities to ensure that it becomes a state-of-the-art medical facility. The Block PHC is one of the seven such facilities in the district to have an ISO Certification.
C. Saravanan, Block Medical Officer, said that the PHC was a central facility for the district as far as computerised data records were concerned.
“Special focus is given towards implementation of schemes such as the Muthulakshmi Reddy Scheme for mothers as well as maternity schemes including the Janani Suraksha Yojana which promotes institutional deliveries,” he said.
Mr. Senthilkumar said that in the last seven months, they had covered almost 99.3 per cent of new mothers under the Muthulakshmi Reddy Scheme, under which they get Rs.12,000 in three instalments.
“Since the transfer of assistance has been completely through Electronic Clearance Service, there is no scope for mismanagement of fund and the number of beneficiaries has increased,” he explained.
