Reliance NU Suntech Secures LoA from SECI for Solar and BESS Projects.
Reliance NU Suntech Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a major renewable energy project. The project includes the development of a 930 MW solar power facility alongside a 465 MW/1,860 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), making it the largest deployment of grid storage batteries in Asia, excluding China.
The contract was awarded following an e-reverse auction on December 9, 2024, where Reliance NU Suntech emerged victorious, securing the largest share of the 2,000 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connected solar power project with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage. The project will provide a peak power supply for up to four hours daily.
Under the terms of the agreement, SECI will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Reliance NU Suntech, with solar power to be sold to multiple distribution companies (discoms) across India. The project will be developed on a build-own-operate basis, reinforcing Reliance NU Suntech's position as a leader in India's power generation sector.
