Renault opens $62mn maunfacturing plant in Algeria.
Renault has opened a new USD 62 million manufacturing plant in Oran, Algeria. The plant is the company’s first in the country and will produce the new Renault Symbol for the local market. It has one production line with an annual capacity of 25,000 vehicles.
The plant, which is located at Oued Tlelat, 27 kilometers outside Oran, will assemble the Symbol units from semi-knockdown (SKD) kits sent from Renault’s plant and logistics center in Pitesti, Romania.
A second phase with an increase to 75,000 vehicles per year is under consideration and will include closer integration of suppliers, as well as body and paint shops.
The official inauguration of the plant was held earlier this week. The event was attended by Algeria's Prime Minister Mr. Abdelmalek Sellal, Minister of Industry and Mining Mr. Abdesselam Bouchouareb, France's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Mr. Laurent Fabius and Minister of the Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs Mr. Emmanuel Macron attending, Mr. Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault group.
Renault is one of the leading car manufacturers in Algeria and had a market share of more than 25 percent at end-September 2014.
