Karnataka and GAIL Partner for 1 GW Renewable Energy Initiative.

The Karnataka government has formalized a partnership with GAIL (India) Limited, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop approximately 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity within the state. The ambitious project is expected to attract an investment of ₹5,000 crore.

The MoU was officially signed by key state dignitaries, including M.B. Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, K.J. George, Minister for Energy, and T.D. Rajegowda, Chairman of the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL). Representing the respective entities at the signing ceremony were Selvakumar S., Principal Secretary of the Industries Department, and Parivesh Chugh Singh, Executive Director (SD & Renewables) of GAIL.

Following the signing, Minister M.B. Patil assured GAIL of the state's full support, stating, "GAIL can initiate the projects by acquiring land from farmers on a lease basis, or we will facilitate land allocation through the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). All necessary approvals, registration processes, and concessions will be expedited." This commitment from the state government underscores its dedication to fostering renewable energy development and attracting significant investment in the sector. The collaboration with a major player like GAIL is a significant step towards enhancing Karnataka's clean energy infrastructure.
