RINL to implement PCI technology in blast furnace-3.
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. (Visakhapatnam steel plant) is adopting pulverised coal injection technology in the blast furnace-3 for the first time to cut costs, according to Chairman and Managing Director P. Madhusudan.
He was speaking morning after inaugurating the two-day Citech 2014 - a workshop on pulverised coal injection technology.
He underscored the need to bring down the cost of production in the present competitive world. He said the introduction of PCI enables the steel makers to cut down the usage of metallurgical coal in hot metal making and help in enhancing BF productivity, reduce CO2 emissions and fuel rate.
Madhusudan said PCI technology is 'very relevant in the Indian steel industry because hot metal production cost is around 80 per cent in an integrated steel plant and there is a need to focus on cost competitiveness'.
