The Rushikonda tourism project, spearheaded by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) in the bustling Port City, has recently gained significant attention amidst the unfolding developments related to the establishment of the Chief Minister's camp office in Visakhapatnam.
As part of this upscale luxury retreat, the APTDC has meticulously crafted four blocks, encompassing six conference halls, a grand banquet hall, and a total of 70 opulent guest rooms. While the bulk of the construction work has been successfully concluded, there are some ongoing internal enhancements, which are expected to be wrapped up within the coming couple of months.
High-ranking officials at the Velagapudi Secretariat clarified, "At present, it is a resort-type project, not a hotel. The resort has the potential for expansion."
They continued, "Works such as landscaping and the establishment of connecting roads between the various blocks are in their final stages. Lighting, WiFi connectivity, and other finishing touches are currently in progress."
During his recent visit to Visakhapatnam, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy disclosed that although he initially contemplated relocating to the city in October, the plan was postponed to December.
These developments have ignited criticism from opposition parties, including the TDP and the Jana Sena Party, who have vocally criticized the government for their intentions to potentially utilize the newly constructed facilities at Rushikonda as part of their long-term vision to make Visakhapatnam the Executive capital.
Simultaneously, the government has formed a high-level committee, comprising three senior IAS officers, to explore suitable locations for the camp office and accommodations for senior officials in the Port City.
Officials explained, "The committee has begun exploring potential sites within the city, including areas like IT Twin Towers, the State Guest House, the Greyhounds area, and other private properties."
"The final selection of the location for the CM's camp office will only occur after receiving security personnel's approval," they added.
The Rushikonda project spans across 61 acres, specifically in Survey Nos. 19/3 and 19/4 of Yendada village. Initially planned to occupy 9.88 acres, the CRZ clearance was granted for a built-up area of 19,968 sq.m, spread across seven blocks, according to APTDC officials.
Subsequently, APTDC opted to limit the use of the CRZ approved land to just four buildings, namely Vijayanagara, Gajapathi, Kalinga, and Vengi, covering an area of 13,542 sq.m within 1.84 acres. Additionally, approximately 8.04 acres are allocated for hardscape and landscape development.
An essential part of the project's environmental efforts includes the plantation of 16,350 local species, 24,120 hedge plants, and 4,047 creepers to enhance the region's green cover.
