Tata Power Awards ₹2,470 Crore Pumped Storage Project Contract to HCC-TPL.
Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Tata Projects Limited have been awarded a ₹2,470 crore contract by Tata Power Company Limited to develop the Bhivpuri Off-Stream Open-Loop Pumped Storage Project in Karjat, Maharashtra.
The 50:50 joint venture will construct a 1000 MW facility comprising four units (2x333 MW + 2x167 MW). The contract includes extensive civil and hydro-mechanical works such as dams, tunnels, intake structures, and a powerhouse.
The scope of work encompasses building a coffer dam, intake structures at the existing Thokerwadi upper reservoir, head race tunnels, penstock, surge shaft, pressure shaft, powerhouse, tail race tunnel, and a new lower reservoir featuring a GFRD (Gravity-Faced Rockfill Dam). The JV will also oversee infrastructure development and coordinate with electro-mechanical systems.
HCC has a strong track record in hydropower development, having contributed to nearly 26% of India’s installed hydro capacity. The company is also engaged in five other hydropower projects, including the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage System in Uttarakhand.
With over a century of engineering expertise, HCC has played a key role in India’s infrastructure development, building 60% of the country’s nuclear power generation capacity and over 4,000 lane kilometers of highways.
