Thirty road projects executed in Laghman

Jalalabad: Thirty reconstruction projects were executed in the eastern Laghman province, a gubernatorial spokesman said. Abdul Wakeel Attak told Pajhwok Afghan News the schemes included a nine-kilometer road in Mehtarlam, connecting Omarzai area with the Dewai village. The road having 50 bridges and a 1200-metre supportive wall was completed in one year.

He added the road, constructed at the cost of $318,000 provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will benefit 7000 families.

Education Director Saeed Jamaluddin Hussaini said work on a girls high school, with eight classrooms and a four-room administrative block, got under way in the Katabzai area of the province Thursday morning. The $85,000 project is being implemented with the support of the Japanese government.

Meanwhile, some 28 different reconstruction projects were completed in Mehtarlam and Alingar districts. The schemes, costing 5.5 million afghanis, included a vocational skills development centre, water-supply plans and a supportive, said Hamayun Akseer, Director of the National Solidarity Programme (NSP). They will benefit some 60,000 families.
