Trichy-Madurai NH to Get Kathipara Model Flyover, Announces Minister Nehru.

The Tamil Nadu state government, in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is set to construct a cloverleaf type flyover on the Trichy-Madurai national highway at Panjapur. The project aims to alleviate potential traffic congestion arising from the development of new infrastructure in the area, including a Tidel Park and a new wholesale market, Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru announced recently.

Minister Nehru was in Trichy to lay foundation stones for new projects and inaugurate completed infrastructure within the Trichy Corporation limits, totaling ₹70 crore.

Speaking about the proposed flyover at Panjapur, the minister stated that it will span 3.5 kilometers and feature six lanes. He added that the required land has been surveyed and handed over by the district administration and that the flyover, to be constructed by NHAI, will be similar in design to the Kathipara flyover in Chennai. The minister also mentioned that work on a four-lane semi-ring road connecting the Trichy-Madurai NH and Trichy-Karur NH is simultaneously progressing.

Official sources from NHAI acknowledged the development, confirming that a detailed project report (DPR) for the new flyover is currently underway and that all viable options, including the cloverleaf model, are being explored.

Responding to queries regarding the status of the Maris Road Over Bridge (RoB) near Fort Station and the Trichy railway junction RoB (Stage II), the minister clarified that the state government's portion of work has been completed on both projects, and it is now up to Southern Railway to expedite their respective scopes of work.

On the prospects of a metro rail network for Trichy city, Nehru said the proposal is still under discussion and a survey will commence shortly. He also provided an update on the planned expansion of the Trichy Corporation through the amalgamation of nearby village panchayats, stating that this forms part of a pan-state proposal that is being finalized. Ward delimitation will be undertaken as part of this process, and objections to the proposed expansion have been sought.

Earlier in the day, the minister laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the IBT Link Road project, estimated at a cost of ₹68 crore. This phase of the IBT Link Road will have a total length of 2.1 kilometers, with an elevated section of 1.1 kilometers, connecting Woraiyur to Kudamurutti. The road will have a width of 10 meters and is expected to be completed within 1.5 years.
