UP, AP and Rajasthan Lead in EV Adoption and Green Hydrogen: IEEFA-Ember Study.

Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan are emerging as frontrunners in promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and green hydrogen, thanks to regulatory measures such as green tariffs, green open access mechanisms, and solar-hour-aligned time-of-day (ToD) tariffs.

The findings come from the States’ Electricity Transition (SET) report, a joint study by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) and Ember, which examined 21 states accounting for 95% of India’s power demand.

Apart from these top performers, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala have also made significant strides in decarbonising their electricity systems, achieving a higher share of renewable energy in their procurement mix and reducing power sector emissions intensity.

The study highlights how state-level initiatives are accelerating India’s clean energy transition while supporting the uptake of EVs and green hydrogen.
