Bhogapuram Can Become Aviation Hub for India's Eastern Coast: Rammohan Naidu.

India's aviation sector is set for a major transformation, with the country preparing to launch its first commercial seaplane service in Lakshadweep and develop Bhogapuram International Airport as a key economic aviation hub on the eastern coast.

In an interview with businessline, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said the government is aiming to build a stronger domestic airline ecosystem, with at least five major Indian carriers operating fleets of more than 100 aircraft each to meet rising air travel demand.

The Minister outlined a broad roadmap focused on regional connectivity, fleet expansion, and domestic aircraft manufacturing. He said the recent completion of the design for the 19-seater SARAS aircraft marks a significant step towards strengthening India's indigenous aviation capabilities.

According to Naidu, policy initiatives and an estimated government investment of ₹20,000-30,000 crore over the next decade will help position India not only as one of the world's largest aviation markets but also as a global centre for aircraft manufacturing and design.

The government's aviation strategy includes expanding regional air connectivity, supporting airline growth, and developing infrastructure projects such as Bhogapuram International Airport, which is expected to drive economic activity along India's eastern coastline.
