Web Werks Announces ₹5,200-Crore Investment to Establish Data Centers in Telangana
Web Werks, a prominent data centre company, has revealed ambitious plans to invest ₹5,200 crore in Telangana, marking a significant expansion of its operations in the region. The company, already boasting data centres in key cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Delhi, had inaugurated a data centre in Hyderabad in May 2023.
The investment announcement was made during a meeting between Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Iron Mountain CEO William Meaney, along with Web Werks CEO Nikhil Rathi, at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday.
As a fully-owned subsidiary of the US-based Iron Mountain, Web Werks is set to allocate ₹1,200 crore for the establishment of a 10 MW networking-intensive data centre in Hyderabad. This investment is currently in progress. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Web Werks is slated to expand further by injecting over ₹4,000 crore into a greenfield Hyperscale Data Centre in Telangana over the next few years.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed confidence that the state would emerge as a prime destination for data centres in India. He highlighted the advantage of investors being able to source significant portions of their power requirements from renewable sources, emphasizing the growing trust in the new government.
William Meaney, President and CEO of Iron Mountain, stated, “We currently use 100 per cent renewable energy across our data centres globally and look forward to extending this in India.” This underlines Iron Mountain's commitment to sustainability, aligning with global best practices in utilizing renewable energy sources.
Web Werks' substantial investment underscores the growing significance of Telangana in the data centre landscape and reflects the company's confidence in the region's potential for continued growth.
