West Bengal has successfully completed the full repair, widening, and reinforcement of 3,611 km of roads between April 2023 and June 2024, with an investment of ₹3,967 crore, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Pulak Roy informed the state assembly recently. In addition, damaged sections of 7,765 km of roads were restored at a cost of ₹207 crore, the minister said while responding to a query.
Roy also highlighted that the West Bengal Highway Development Corporation Ltd (WBHDCL) is working towards improving connectivity across the state, focusing on enhancing access between cities and remote regions.
The minister further noted that the four-laning of the Kalyani Expressway is nearing completion and is expected to be fully operational soon. This expressway serves as a vital alternative to the congested NH-12, facilitating smoother vehicular movement between Kolkata and Kalyani.
