"Adani, Siemens, GMR, Reliance Compete for Green Mobility Project in Uttar Pradesh"

"Renewable Energy Giants, Adani-TotalEnergies, GMR Energy, Reliance, and Siemens, Compete for Green Mobility Project in Uttar Pradesh

Leading players in the renewable energy sector, including Adani-TotalEnergies, GMR Energy, Reliance, and Siemens, are in a competitive race for a green mobility project in Uttar Pradesh. The state government's ambitious plan involves the development of e-charging infrastructure along four expressways—Bundelkhand, Purvanchal, Agra-Lucknow, and Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

The nodal agency overseeing this initiative, UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), has invited bids from private companies to establish a network of 26 e-charging stations within these projects. Among the nearly dozen participating companies are Reliance, GMR Energy, Adani-TotalEnergies, Belectric, Lightzip Technologies, EV Plexus, and Siemens, according to a government official.

The proposed e-charging stations are designed to include public amenities and vending zones, with the government offering land on a 10-year lease to the successful bidder. The timeline requires the company to commence operations within six months of land allotment, with the state government entitled to 5 percent of the revenues after five years.

Aligned with the state's target to achieve full e-mobility by 2030, the government is actively promoting renewable energy production, particularly solar, and encouraging the use of green energy products, including electric vehicles (EVs). Plans are underway to establish a robust network of e-charging stations at public places and residential areas.

Uttar Pradesh currently boasts the highest number of registered EVs on its roads, representing nearly 25 percent of the total EVs in the country. The UP EV Manufacturing & Mobility Policy 2022 aims to attract investments, foster sustainable transport, and create an ecosystem for EVs. With a target investment of Rs 30,000 crore, the policy aims to generate 22,000 megawatts (MW) of solar energy to fulfill green energy commitments and meet the growing energy demand in the state, currently at 30,000 MW.

The state is also in the process of inviting bids for 7,000 MW of solar energy. The first phase will see bids for 4,000 MW, followed by an additional 3,000 MW in subsequent rounds. In addition to existing policies for solar energy and bioenergy, the government is actively developing biofuel and energy storage policies to provide a comprehensive landscape for investors."
