AIC Iron Industries Proposes Steelmaking and Chrome Ore Processing Facilities in West Bengal
Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal: AIC Iron Industries Private Limited has proposed developing new steelmaking and mineral processing facilities within its integrated steel complex in Paschim Bardhaman district, West Bengal. The proposed developments aim to strengthen steel production capabilities, improve raw material utilisation and enhance operational efficiency.
The steelmaking project involves installing four induction furnaces, each with a 25-tonne capacity, supported by matching ladle refining furnace (LRF) and continuous casting machine (CCM) facilities. The integrated configuration will enable molten steel production, refining and continuous casting, supporting the manufacture of billets and other intermediate steel products.
Separately, the company plans to establish a chrome ore briquetting plant and slag-crushing facilities within the same industrial complex. The briquetting unit is intended to improve chrome ore handling and feedstock preparation, while the slag-crushing facility will support processing and potential recovery of reusable materials from metallurgical waste.
Both proposals are currently at the conceptual and planning stage and are undergoing environmental appraisal.
The developments could strengthen the regional iron and steel manufacturing ecosystem while encouraging improved resource utilisation.
However, the company has not disclosed the combined investment value, equipment suppliers, construction schedule or anticipated commissioning dates. Project implementation remains subject to regulatory approvals.
