BP to begin work on enhancing output at Mumbai High from March 2025.
State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) announced recently that BP will commence work on boosting production at the ageing Mumbai High oil and gas field starting March 2025. BP has been appointed as a technical services provider (TSP) for India’s largest offshore oil field under a newly signed contract.
As part of the agreement, BP will deploy a team of technical experts to stabilize the field’s production decline and restore growth. A joint management team and a senior management team have already been established to oversee the project’s execution.
While ONGC will retain ownership and operational control of the field, BP will receive a fixed fee for two years for its personnel, followed by a service fee tied to incremental oil and gas production. The global energy giant will leverage its expertise in managing mature reservoirs to optimize oil recovery, enhance reservoir management, and implement system optimizations.
The partnership is expected to significantly boost domestic oil and gas output, increasing ONGC’s revenue while providing BP with higher service fee returns.
Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the collaboration as a key initiative to enhance production from the iconic field. Oil Secretary Pankaj Jain emphasized that the engagement aligns with India's strategy to integrate global best practices and advanced technologies for optimizing Mumbai High’s production.
