Delhi’s Largest RRTS Station, Sarai Kale Khan, Nears Completion.
The Sarai Kale Khan station, the largest on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, is nearing completion, with trial runs on the New Ashok Nagar-Sarai Kale Khan stretch expected to begin by the end of April.
According to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), track work on this section is complete, and electric traction-related work is in its final stages. The overhead electrical masts and cables will soon be energized.
Currently, Namo Bharat trains operate on a 55-km stretch from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South, covering 11 stations. Beyond this, construction on three more stations—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—is in its final phase, with finishing work progressing rapidly. Extensive trial runs are also being conducted from Meerut South to Meerut Central, where Meerut Metro services will use the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat trains.
Key Transport Hub for Delhi
Sarai Kale Khan will be a major multi-modal transport hub, connecting the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road, enhancing connectivity and reducing congestion.
"This integration will help reduce reliance on private vehicles, curbing pollution and ensuring seamless travel for lakhs of daily commuters," said an NCRTC official.
Designed to handle high passenger volumes, Sarai Kale Khan will be a crucial interchange point for all three corridors of the first phase of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)—Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Panipat, and Delhi-SNB-Alwar.
The station features five entry-exit gates, 14 lifts, 18 escalators, and multiple staircases to facilitate passenger movement across different levels.
