Ghaziabad MP Proposes Elevated Road on GT Road Between Lal Kuan and New Bus Stand.

In a move aimed at tackling the persistent traffic congestion on Ghaziabad's vital GT Road, Lok Sabha MP Atul Garg is pushing for the construction of an elevated road between Lal Kuan and the new bus stand. Following his intervention, a survey has been conducted, estimating the project cost at approximately ₹650 crore.

Traffic congestion on GT Road was a significant issue raised during the recent Lok Sabha elections, where MP Atul Garg had pledged to work towards decongesting the crucial artery. Since his election, Garg has engaged in correspondence and held meetings with officials from both the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to address the problem.

As part of these efforts, MP Garg requested officials from the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited (Setu Nigam) to prepare a cost estimate for the proposed elevated road. This elevated stretch, covering approximately three kilometers from Lal Kuan to the new bus stand, is envisioned as the first phase of work to facilitate further action by both the central and state governments for road improvement.

Rajneesh Yadav, Project Manager of the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited, Ghaziabad unit, confirmed that a survey was indeed conducted for the construction of the elevated road and a report prepared. Yadav, cited by Jagran.com, stated that the estimated cost outlined in the report is around ₹650 crore. If the project is undertaken by Setu Nigam, it is expected to take approximately four years to complete.

Addressing the urgent need for the project, officials from the Uttar Pradesh PWD estimate that the daily traffic volume on this section of GT Road exceeds 125,000 passenger car units, highlighting the severe congestion faced by commuters.

The proposal comes after a previous plan during the tenure of former MP VK Singh to decongest the GT Road from Lal Kuan to Gyani Border did not materialise. The current initiative focuses on a critical three-kilometre segment as a starting point for broader improvements.
