Kunal Organics launches textile sizing products

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad-based Kunal Organics Pvt Ltd (KOPL) on Wednesday announced the launch of three new chemical products providing eco-friendly sizing solutions for the textile industry.

Seeing a huge potential for its offerings, the company plans to invest nearly Rs 300 crore for capacity expansion in the next three years. This year, it is targeting to sell its entire annual capacity 3,600 tonnes worth $2.2 million, including 20 per cent as exports. These products reduce operational cost of textile-making by about 25 per cent through elimination of a number of processes involving sizing, the tedious process of strengthening, smoothening and colouring the yarn to turn into textile.

The company, engaged in the textile auxiliaries for three decades, hopes to double its turnover to Rs 200 crore next fiscal with the new products, Mr Atul Lekhadia, Managing Director, and Mr Kunal Lekhadia, Director, told a press conference here.

They said the new products were the first of its kind in the world to replace a technology that has remained unchanged since the 1800s.

“We have received good response from Turkey, Tunisia and other countries for these new products.”

New sizing method

KOPL’s customers include Arvind Mills, Raymond and Mafatlal in India, and many others in France, Italy, Brazil, Algeria and other African countries.

The three products launched under ‘Size Care’ series for different applications are polyamylomide copolymers compounds which improve weaving efficiency and warp flexibility.

It is a one-shot sizing system and does away with the need for starch, wax, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and binders.

The new sizing method requires less size in the machine and less water for clean up, he said. It would also eliminate the possibility of harmful effluents to a large extent.

KOPL is also in the process of patenting the new method and products on whose research and development it has invested Rs 15 crore, so far.

It has also obtained the necessary approvals for use of these products in organic cotton cultivation as well.
