Kundli in Haryana will soon join the list of NCR cities served by Delhi Metro, becoming the sixth such city after Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Bahadurgarh, and Faridabad. The Union Cabinet approved the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor on Friday, marking a significant milestone for metro connectivity in the region.
This new 26.5-kilometre corridor will extend the Red Line, which currently runs from Rithala to Shaheed Sthal, all the way to Kundli in Haryana, making it the first-ever metro route to connect Haryana and Uttar Pradesh via Delhi. This will also mark the fourth metro line into Haryana, following the Yellow, Violet, and Green lines, which serve Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Bahadurgarh, respectively.
The Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor will consist of 21 stations, with key stops including sectors of Rohini, Barwala, Sanoth, and Narela, along with the Bawana industrial area and Narela Village. This extension is expected to significantly improve connectivity for residents and workers in the Narela and Rohini sub-cities, where numerous housing projects and educational institutes are under development.
The corridor will have no interchange station, making Kundli the terminus. This extension is part of the ongoing expansion efforts of Delhi Metro, which already serves the NCR cities of Noida and Ghaziabad through the Blue Line.
In addition to this development, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is progressing on several other important corridors under Phase IV. These include the Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, and the Inderlok to Indraprastha corridors, which are expected to enhance connectivity further. Construction is also underway on the Janakpuri West to RK Ashram, Majlis Park to Maujpur, and Aerocity to Tughlaqabad corridors, with some sections set to open by 2025 and the full phase expected to be completed by 2026.
A senior DMRC official confirmed that work on the 2.5-km stretch from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension is nearing completion and will be open to the public soon.
