MGCL discovers gas in Sukkur exploration block
Islamabad: The Mari Gas Company (MGCL), a Pakistani petroleum exploration and production company, has made a significant new gas discovery in Koonj Well No 1A in the Sukkur exploration block.
It said this momentous success of the Sukkur joint venture is also happy news for the country; adding indigenous source to nation's gas reserve base which would result in substantial savings of foreign exchange.
The Sukkur Joint Venture comprises MGCL -Operator with 50 percent interest share, Petroleum Exploration Limited (PEL) 35 percent, a Pakistani exploration and production company and International Sovereign Energy Corp as well as 15 percent a Canadian exploration and production company.
The Well No 1A was spud-in on April 22, 2008 and drilled down to a depth of 1,475 meters in Pab Sandstone of Cretaceous age. Based on the wire-line logs, drilling data and geological information, the well was tested using drill stem testing methods.
As a result the Koonj Well No 1A discovery was made in the Sui Main Limestone Formation which tested minimum gas flow rate of 8.61 mmscf/day with wellhead pressure of 727 PSI at 48/64' choke size. The discovered gas has a heating value of 860 BTU/SCF.
