Multi-tier parking project likely to miss 3-year deadline.
With Jammu Development Authority (JDA) moving at snail’s pace in completing the formalities, the proposed Multi-Tier-Parking-Project at General Bus Stand Jammu is likely to miss the 3-year deadline fixed for its completion.
Foundation stone of the project was laid a year back (September 2014) by then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and was slated to be completed in three years.
Estimated to cost Rs. 131 crore, the project was announced by the previous government just before the Assembly elections considering the rising public outcry over the increasing traffic problem in Jammu city.
The project, according to experts, is of great importance to decongest the over-croweded roads of Jammu city. The parking project, proposed to have five levels, would have a capacity for 1300 buses and cars, official sources said.
Sources said that the parking project at the Bus Stand and at three other places of Van Bhawan, Panjtirthi and Shalamaar were conceived about a decade ago, but could not move beyond the files over all these years.
According to VC, Jammu Development Authority (JDA), Mubarak Singh, the tendering process for the multi-level-parking-project is complete and next step is to seek approval from the JDA Board of Directors (BoDs).
“The project details will be presented to the Board of Directors (BoDs) for approval after that construction work will be started”, he said.
Superintendent Engineer, JDA, A K Kapoor told Greater Kashmir that the tenders from the interested bidders were first invited in the month of March this year, “but due to some technical hiccups, the time for the same was extended up to July and again to August”.
“Now the tendering process is complete and three national level companies have shown their interests in the execution of the project. The work includes designing, engineering, procurement and construction of multi-level-parking-facility”, said the SE.
