Nitin Gadkari Announces ₹30,000 Crore Plan to Decongest Goa's Roads.

In a significant development aimed at bolstering Goa's infrastructure, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced a substantial financial commitment of Rs 25,000-30,000 crore over the next five years. The pledge is set to revolutionize the state's road network, addressing critical issues of traffic congestion and environmental sustainability.

Speaking at an event, Gadkari highlighted the urgent need for Goa to adopt a comprehensive master plan focused on transportation efficiency and pollution reduction, particularly in tourist-heavy regions like Rishikesh and Dehradun. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in managing traffic flow and curbing pollution, urging the Goa government to take proactive measures.

Of particular significance is the allocation earmarked for Goa's eastern ring road project, designed to streamline traffic from Karnataka and Maharashtra, bypassing densely populated urban areas. Gadkari's remarks came during the inauguration of a six-lane, access-controlled elevated corridor linking NH 66 to Manohar International Airport.

"The initial impact of enhanced road infrastructure in other regions has been a threefold increase in tourist influx, accompanied by severe congestion," Gadkari remarked. "A well-crafted master plan for Goa could mitigate these challenges, promoting cleaner public transport options and reducing pollution levels."

Gadkari also proposed converting Goa's bike taxis to environmentally friendly alternatives such as CNG or electric motorcycles, advocating for the entire public transport fleet in the state to eventually transition to electric, biofuel, or other sustainable energy sources.

"The adoption of cleaner fuels in Goa will significantly mitigate environmental impact, aligning with our vision for a sustainable future," Gadkari urged, directing his appeal to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the state government.

Highlighting ongoing projects worth Rs 22,000 crore slated for completion by year-end, Gadkari assured continued support, with additional funds anticipated to accelerate Goa's development trajectory.

"In the forthcoming years, I reaffirm my commitment to Goa's progress with an estimated Rs 30,000 crore allocation," Gadkari concluded, underscoring his dedication to advancing Goa's infrastructure and environmental goals.

The announcement marks a pivotal moment in Goa's infrastructure evolution, promising transformative changes in connectivity and environmental sustainability under Gadkari's ambitious roadmap.
