Noida Airport to Feature 172-Acre Commercial District.

The upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) is set to transform the region with a 172-acre Commercial District that will host hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping centers, and recreational facilities. The development aims to become a hub for economic growth, blending world-class amenities with sustainable infrastructure.

Speaking to BusinessLine, Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA, highlighted the airport’s vision to establish a "sustainable, innovative, and connected commercial community." He emphasized the project's goal of integrating the commercial district with the airport to cater to diverse local, national, and global businesses.

“Our phased development approach prioritizes sustainability, preserves long-term aviation capacity, and ensures flexibility for future expansion while optimizing airport operations,” Schnellmann explained.

One of the district's first developments will be an airport hotel by Roseate Hotels and Resorts, featuring over 240 rooms. Similar aerotropolis concepts are already flourishing in India, with Delhi and Hyderabad airports housing expansive commercial areas. Hyderabad Aerocity spans 1,500 acres, while Delhi Aerocity covers 200 acres. Bangalore International Airport is also developing its own aerocity.

Industry experts note that such districts are vital revenue sources for airport developers, with earnings from land leases directly benefiting airport operators.

The Noida International Airport, set to be the second airport in the Delhi-NCR region, is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually after the completion of its first phase, which includes one runway and one terminal. Earlier this month, the airport successfully conducted a validation flight test with IndiGo, marking a significant step toward aerodrome licensing.

The project is spearheaded by Zurich Airport International AG, which won the concession in 2019. The Switzerland-based company is executing the project through its subsidiary, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL). Zurich Airport International also operates the Zurich Airport and manages nine airports in South America.
