RIL's AP facility gears up to receive gas from KG-D6
Rajahmundry: The on-shore terminal facility of Reliance Industries (RIL) located at Gadimoga, East Godavari district, is gearing up to receive the first flow of gas from KG-D6 field. The production of gas is poised to come on stream by next mon th, RIL officials said here.
With this, East Godavari region will emerge as the hub of India's natural gas production. Gas from the KG basin would propel RIL into the select club of deep sea operators as it sets to turn the tap on for the world's largest deep sea gas production comp lex. So far, the pride of place has been held by Ormen Lange in Norway with a output capacity of 70 MMSCMD.
RIL's production from KG-D6 is planned to reach 80 MMSCMD by 2010, the officials said.
At present over 70 per cent of the country's natural gas is consumed jointly by the power and the fertiliser sectors. Both these sectors, however, are facing severe shortages resulting in plants shutting down or having to operate at sub-optimal capacitie s.
Once KG-D6 gas reaches the quiet village of Gadimoga, India would open a new chapter in its quest for energy security. The production would double the domestic gas availability, increase power generation and reduce fertiliser subsidy, the officials said.
