Schneider Electric Infrastructure clears enhanced ₹291.2 crore investment for Kolkata facility upgrade.

Schneider Electric Infrastructure has announced a major enhancement of its capital expenditure plan for its Kolkata Medium Voltage Components (KMVC) facility, in a move aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity and expanding export capabilities.

The company’s Board of Directors approved a significant upward revision in investment focused on scaling production of Medium Voltage (MV) Vacuum Interrupters. The capex allocation for this segment has been increased from ₹138 crore to ₹184 crore, reflecting an additional ₹46 crore commitment to expand project scope and accelerate capacity expansion.

As part of the revised plan, production capacity targets have been substantially upgraded. Output is now expected to rise to 250,000 units per annum, compared with the earlier target of 180,000 units. This marks a sharp increase from the facility’s legacy capacity of 80,000 units per year, which has recently been operating at around 90% utilisation. The expanded facility will also include production lines for MV Vacuum Interrupters as well as MV Vacuum Circuit Breaker assemblies.

The company expects the enhanced capacity to become fully operational by the first quarter of FY 2028–29, with a completion deadline of June 30, 2028. Funding for the expansion will be met through a combination of internal accruals, debt, or other financing options.

In a parallel development, the board also approved an increase in investment for a dedicated Mechanism Assembly Line at the KMVC facility. The capex for this component has been revised upward from ₹90.6 crore to ₹107.2 crore, further supporting long-term growth and operational integration.

According to the company, the combined investments are aligned with its broader strategy of manufacturing localisation, strengthening global export opportunities, and ensuring operational continuity amid rising demand.

With these revisions, the total active capex commitment for the Kolkata facility now stands at ₹291.2 crore, up from an earlier planned outlay of ₹228.6 crore across prior proposals made in 2022 and 2025.
