Singapore's Investment in India's Aviation Sector on the Horizon, Says MEA.
Singapore is seeking a partnership with India to develop maintenance, repair, and overhauling (MRO) capabilities within the civil aviation sector, according to P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Speaking at a briefing on Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's visit to India, Kumaran highlighted MRO as a key area for collaboration. He noted that Singapore possesses significant experience and expertise in this field and wants to invest in MRO facilities and help develop capacity in India.
"Singapore has very good experience and expertise in the area of MRO. And therefore, it is a very promising area for us to collaborate," Kumaran stated. "Singapore wants to invest in MRO facilities in India and help develop capacity in India."
He specified that SIA Engineering Company Limited, a Singaporean firm specializing in aircraft, is looking to partner with India's Tata Group. Given that Singapore Airlines has a 25% stake in Air India, a collaboration with Tata's in MRO "makes sense," Kumaran explained. This partnership would leverage India's land availability to set up new MRO facilities and further enhance the country's aviation infrastructure.
