Suzuki to Invest ₹70,000 Crore in India for EV Expansion.
Suzuki Motor Corporation announced a massive investment plan for India recently, pledging ₹70,000 crore over the next six years. A key part of this investment is a ₹3,200 crore allocation for a new, dedicated electric vehicle (EV) production line at the company's manufacturing complex in Hansalpur, Gujarat.
The new EV line will have an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh cars, bringing the total production capacity of the Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Ltd (SMG) plant to 10 lakh units per annum. This expansion is set to transform the Hansalpur facility into a global production hub for the new e-Vitara model.
During an event at the plant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially flagged off the first batch of the new Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The Hansalpur plant currently produces popular models like the Baleno, Fronx, and Swift on its three existing production lines.
“This Gujarat facility, serving customers across India and global markets, will shortly become one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing hubs, with a planned capacity of one million units,” said Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation. “We chose this facility to manufacture the e-Vitara, our first BEV, and make it a global production hub for this model. We will export this ‘Made-in-India BEV’ to over 100 countries, including Japan and Europe.”
