"Va Tech WABAG Secures €63 Million Water Treatment Project in Tunisia"
Va Tech WABAG, a leading water technology company, has successfully secured a substantial consortium Design, Build, and Operate (DBO) order valued at approximately €63 million. This project involves the construction of a 345-million-liter-per-day (MLD) drinking water treatment plant located in Bejaoua, Tunisia. The order was awarded by Societe Nationale D’exploitation Et De Distribution Des Eaux (SONEDE) and is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Investment Bank (BEI).
The project is set to span a period of 30 months, including both the construction and commissioning phases, followed by an additional 12 months for operation and maintenance. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the two-decade-long association between SONEDE and Va Tech WABAG, further underscoring the company's strong presence in the North African region.
Guhan Kandasamy, Head of Marketing - Africa at Va Tech WABAG, expressed the company's commitment to water security in the African continent, stating, "WABAG, with this large water treatment project, continues its contribution to water security in the African continent. This plant, which is one of the largest drinking water treatment plants in WABAG’s profile, when completed will be an important reference project for us and will further enhance water security in the capital of Tunisia."
In this project, Va Tech WABAG will serve as the consortium leader, collaborating with Entreprise Gloulou Mohamed et Salem (EGMS), the partner responsible for civil works. Va Tech WABAG's scope of work encompasses engineering and procurement (EP), as well as operation and maintenance (O&M), which accounts for approximately half of the total consortium order value. Their responsibilities include the design, engineering, and supply of electromechanical equipment, including state-of-the-art compact lamella clarifiers, as well as the installation and commissioning of the plant, followed by one year of operation and maintenance.
