Work on PM's 'Trade Facilitation Centre and Craft Museum' project begins.
The construction of proposed Trade Facilitation Centre and Crafts Museum was started almost a year after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone in Bada Lalpur area of his parliamentary constituency on November 7, 2014.
The National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCCL), one of the 'Navratna' PSUs of the central government, is executing the ambitious project worth Rs 200 crore of the union ministry of textiles.
According to the AGM (Engg) Sohan Lal, the construction work began on the first day of Navratra festival. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The main components of the project include the buildings for trade facilitation, exhibition hall, food court and restroom for artisans, craft bazaar, and arts and craft museum. Besides, it will also have an open air theatre for various activities.
The Trade Facilitation Centre and Craft Museum for Varanasi had been approved in the Budget of 2014-15 to develop and promote the handloom, handicraft and silk products of Varanasi and to provide necessary help to weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs of Varanasi for boosting their marketing activities in domestic as well as international markets.
Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India allotted land for this purpose at Bada Lalpur.
