7500 railway stations to be constructed
Farrukhabad: To catapult Indian Railways to the top slot in terms of largest network in the world, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Sunday said his department was constructing 7500 new railway stations across the country.
Prasad, in Uttar Pradesh to inaugurate upgraded rail tracks on Farrukhabad-Kasganj section, said the Railways had embarked on an ambitious project to construct over-bridges at all major crossings.
Such an exercise was aimed at streamlining the rail traffic, he said.
Prasad said his Ministry was constructing 7500 new railway stations in the country to enable Indian Railways occupy the top slot in terms of world's largest rail network.
He said 44 projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore were being undertaken in North India, adding all formalities to establish a rail coach factory at Raebareli had been completed.
Prasad said he had requested Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to provide land for the project at the earliest.
