AMI Industries opens centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: AMI Industries (I) has announced the launch of its R&D centre in Hyderabad to focus on automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) and radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies.

The Mumbai-based company plans to invest about $5 million (Rs 20 crore) in the Hyderabad centre which will also host a back-end business process outsourcing centre.

The Director of Finance, Mr V. Gangan, said that the company plans to induct about 300 people in Hyderabad and is set to expand overseas by setting up new centres.

As part of its efforts to provide supply chain management services for the logistics, manufacturing and automotive industries, including vehicle tracking, the company has tied up with Intelliflex of the US and TelepathX based in Australia.

Enhancing reach

Addressing a press conference, the Vice-President of AMI, Mr Bhanu Prakash, said that the AIDC and RFID market is poised for rapid growth and the company is set to expand its footprint by setting up overseas centres by the middle of 2008. These solutions would be offered through local partners.

Apart from RFID, the company also provides solutions in embedded technology and imparts training in all these areas.

The company is evaluating the option of an IPO.
