BWSSB’ s investment Plans

Bangalore: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) plans to spend Rs 167 crore on major infrastructure projects in Rajarajeshwarinagar and Byatarayanapura areas, south of the city, which were recently brought under the purview of the Greater Bangalore City Corporation (GBCC).

The projects are being taken up under JNNURM - Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. All the projects have been approved by the Union government.

According to a press release from the BWSSB, Rs 125.16 crore will be spent on the construction of underground drainage system in Byatarayanapura. Another Rs 41.54 crore will be spent on the construction of underground drainage system in Rajarajeshwarinagar.

While the Union government will finance 35 per cent of the project cost, the remaining 65 per cent will be borne by the state government. The state government’s share includes a soft loan raised from the World Bank.

Underground drainage sewerage system measuring up to 463 kms in Byatarayanapura and 117 kms in Rajarajeshwarinagar will be developed. Two sewer cleaning machines, each costing Rs 72 lakh, will also be purchased for the two areas.

The BWSSB has taken up construction of underground drainage systems in the newly added areas of Yelahanka and Kengeri, the release added.
