Collins Aerospace Targets India as Major Sourcing Hub.

Collins Aerospace has unveiled plans to establish India as a key sourcing hub for aeronautical equipment, leveraging the nation’s competitive manufacturing capabilities and expanding its partnerships with local suppliers.

The company, known for producing nacelles, landing gear, flight deck avionics, sensors, and interiors, supplies components used in commercial aircraft from major manufacturers such as Boeing, Airbus, ATR, Embraer, and Bombardier.

In an exclusive interview with Businessline, Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Engineering at Collins Aerospace, highlighted the company’s focus on advancing the production of aerostructures, interiors, and avionics in India.

“As one of the largest exporters of aerospace products in India, Collins Aerospace has contributed significantly to the country’s emergence as a global aerospace manufacturing hub with a thriving ecosystem,” Srinivas said.

The company currently collaborates with around 200 Indian suppliers and aims to triple its sourcing volumes within the next 3–4 years. Srinivas attributed this growth to India’s skilled engineering workforce, robust aerospace ecosystem, and competitive production landscape.

Collins has invested $200 million in expanding its R&D and production facilities, with a strong focus on its manufacturing sites near Bengaluru airport. “Bengaluru is unique for us as it works with all six of our portfolios, including avionics, interiors, advanced structures, and connected aviation solutions,” Srinivas noted.

The company is also considering additional investments to enhance its engineering, manufacturing, and aftermarket capabilities in the region, spurred by supportive government policies for aerospace and defense manufacturing.

Beyond its commercial aviation ventures, Collins Aerospace has been a longstanding partner of the Indian Air Force (IAF), providing components for platforms such as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1 and international aircraft like the C-17, C295, and P-8I.

“India has emerged as a key sourcing destination for us, and we remain committed to strengthening our partnerships with the Indian industry,” Srinivas added.

This planned expansion is expected to bolster India’s aerospace sector, creating opportunities for local suppliers, fostering technological advancements, and driving economic growth.
