Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced recently that the state government has prepared a proposal for a metro train system, with discussions already underway with Indian Railways and central authorities. Speaking at the Young Leaders Conclave in Dona Paula, Sawant confirmed that while the metro project is still in the planning stages, it is set to materialize in the long term.
“The metro is in the planning stage. We have prepared our proposal, and discussions are ongoing with Indian Railways. But, in the long run, a metro will come to Goa,” Sawant stated.
In addition to the metro proposal, Sawant revealed that the state is working on plans to create an IT hub, as over 50 to 60 IT companies are already operating in Goa.
The Chief Minister also addressed plans to rebuild the Panaji and Mapusa bus stands, acknowledging delays but assuring that the reconstruction would proceed.
Sawant further discussed the creation of a new complex at Goa University, which would house colleges for architecture, music, and pharmacy. The new complex would provide modern facilities, replacing the dilapidated pharmacy college building, and the foundation stone for the new pharmacy college is expected to be laid within six months.
Additionally, Sawant highlighted the government's efforts to support nursing students, announcing that they would be accommodated under the CM apprenticeship scheme and provided a small stipend to encourage them to pursue post-graduate education.
Virendra Singh Solanki, National General Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), also addressed the event, stressing the importance of student union elections in motivating students and fostering leadership.
Bhushan Savaikar, Director of Higher Education, was also present at the session.
