President Droupadi Murmu announced recently that the government will invest approximately ₹28,000 crore to set up 12 industrial nodes and develop 100 industrial parks across cities in India. Speaking during the joint session of Parliament marking the start of the Budget session, Murmu emphasized that this move aims to strengthen the country’s industrial infrastructure.
“These industrial areas will be located in Khurpia (Uttarakhand), Rajpura-Patiala (Punjab), Dighi (Maharashtra), Palakkad (Kerala), Agra and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Gaya (Bihar), Zaheerabad (Telangana), Orvakal and Kopparthy (Andhra Pradesh), and Jodhpur-Pali (Rajasthan),” she stated.
The initiative forms part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme approved by the Cabinet in August 2024. These new industrial cities will be developed as greenfield smart cities, equipped with modern infrastructure and designed with “plug-n-play” and “walk-to-work” concepts.
The president also highlighted the government’s efforts to make digital commerce more inclusive through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), enabling small businesses to compete in the online shopping ecosystem.
Additionally, Murmu discussed ongoing efforts to improve the ease of doing business in India, including the Credit Guarantee Scheme for MSMEs and the establishment of e-commerce export hubs. She also noted the extensive review of pre-Constitution laws, with over 40,000 regulations simplified and 3,500 provisions decriminalized to align with current social and economic needs.
