Land for Thammanam-Pullepady Road Development Transferred to PWD.

The long-awaited development of the Thammanam-Pullepady Road, aimed at improving east-west connectivity in the city, is making significant progress. The Revenue Department has officially handed over the land acquired for the road project to the Public Works Department (PWD), with the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) set to begin next month.

During a project review meeting on Wednesday, authorities announced that the acquisition of the remaining land would be completed within the week. Notifications for the land acquisitions will be issued in April under section 11(1), with the process expected to be finalized by June.

The meeting, chaired by Mayor M. Anil Kumar and District Collector NSK Umesh, was attended by Hibi Eden, MP, and T.J. Vinod, MLA, along with officials from various departments.

The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has allocated ₹150 crore for the land acquisition, with a detailed project report for the road and bridge already approved. The proposal includes the development of a 3.68 km road corridor into a four-lane structure, which will connect MG Road and the NH bypass. A total station survey for the project has already been completed.

Over the past two decades, 84 landowners in Ernakulam and Poonithura villages have voluntarily surrendered 163 acres for the project, in addition to the 54 acres acquired from 45 landowners. The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) has been entrusted with the task of developing the narrow, congested road that regularly faces heavy traffic.
