"MoHUA greenlights the high-speed Delhi–Bawal RRTS corridor, a major infrastructure move to link the national capital with Haryana's industrial hub."
In a major development, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the Delhi–Bawal Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, officials said.
The project plan has been modified from the earlier proposal of a Delhi–Dharuhera corridor, with the Delhi–Bawal stretch now finalised. The Haryana government had approved the revised alignment and submitted the proposal to the Union Ministry last year for final clearance.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in a letter dated January 18 to Union Minister of State and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh, said the Delhi–Bawal section of the RRTS project has been approved for implementation in the first phase. He added that the extension from Bawal to Behror in Rajasthan will be taken up in the second phase.
According to the letter, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) had prepared a functional transport plan under NCR-2032, which envisages the development of a semi-high-speed transit system. As part of this plan, the Delhi–Alwar Namo Bharat (RRTS) corridor will initially be constructed from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Bawal in Haryana, with further extensions planned subsequently.
