MUDA plans six-lane road project in Mysore
Chennai/Mysore: The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), in its budget, has proposed among other projects supplying water from the Kabini and complete and widen the Outer Ring Road into a six-lane road.
Apart from distributing 8,000 sites, the Rs 358.6 crore budget for 2008-09 aims to initiate action for a satellite town outside the city limits to ease pressure on the city and preserve its heritage feature.
It has invited tenders for forming the Rs 47.50 crore Ravindranath Tagore Nagar and proposes to take up site formation work in Lalithadrinagar 1st and 2nd stage (Chikkalli), Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar (Uthanahalli), Shanthaveri Gopalagowda Nagar (Alanahalli-Nadanahalli), Vasanthanagar, Martikyathanhalli, R T Nagar, Vijayanagar 2nd Stage, 2nd phase (Hinkal-Hootagalli) by spending Rs 104.65 crore.
MUDA has a waiting list of 150,000 site seekers and expects the list to grow longer. It anticipates Rs 45.96 crore in revenues from site allotments in Ravindranath Tagore Nagar and Lalithadri Nagar, Rs 206.46 crore by auctioning corner, intermediary sites and bulk land allotments, Rs 23.25 crore from auction of commercial complex shops in Dattagalli and Gokulam, and commercial site allotments.
It also expects Rs 3.2 crore from stray houses and sites, Rs 30.69 crore from civic amenity sites, Rs 40 crore from development taxes and Rs 11.81 crore as loans, advances, rents, taxes and other sources as revenue.
After completing the Melapura 2nd Stage, MUDA now proposes water supply from the Kabini, flowing on the southern part of Mysore and has set apart Rs 5.06 crore. For the Outer Ring Road, it has provided its share of Rs 22 crore for the Rs 218 crore from the Centre.
Both projects are coming up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Reconstruction Mission (JNNURM). A 9.5 km stretch of the ring road remains incomplete because of influential landowners. In all, it has provided Rs 10 crore.
MUDA has also proposed a grade separator for the ring road and at the busy Hunsur Road Junction at Rs 5 crore expenditure. While it has set apart Rs 1 crore for preliminary works for the satellite town, it has planned construction of multi-level parking facility under public-private partnership.
While the expenditure under JNNURM projects will be Rs 22 crore, the other special development works of a total annual expenditure of Rs 357.05 crore comprising of welcome arches on four major roads on four directions (Rs 4 crore), heritage park at K C Extension (Rs 3 crore), and tree park (Rs 2 crore). The overall provision made for development of extensions is Rs 96.04 crore.
As it did not take up the expansion of seven major roads last year, this year it has planned expansion of eleven major roads in the city at Rs. 600 lakh. It has set apart Rs 10 crore for land acquisition. The landlosers will get 16 per cent share of the land, apart from compensation. The total outlay for new extensions is Rs 104.65 crore.
The budget presented at the MUDA special meeting on Saturday by Commissioner V Shankar shows a Rs 1.55 crore revenue surplus.
