Vestas to up capacity to 1,000 mw
New Delhi: Wind turbines maker Vestas RRB on Tuesday said it aims to more than double its capacity to 1,000 mw within next 2-3 years, at estimated cost of Rs 3,000 crore.
The company at present has an installed capacity of nearly 250 mw and expects to add another 150 mw by this fiscal end.
“Vestas has an installed capacity of 250 mw and we plan to have 400 mw by the end of this fiscal,” company managing director Rakesh Bakshi said, on the sidelines of International Conference on Renewable Energy in New Delhi.
Bakshi said that addition of one mw costs Rs 4-5 crore. The company is also expecting a near 55 per cent jump in its turnover to over Rs 1,300 crore this fiscal against Rs 840 crore in the previous financial year. “We expect to close the year with a turnover of more than Rs 1,300 crore against Rs 840 crore last year,” he said.
The company had earlier this month bagged orders for two wind turbines of 600 mw from Canada’s Freebreeze Energy Systems. The company also said it is eyeing the US and Canadian markets and expects exports to contribute to 15 per cent of the turnover next year.
The company’s manufacturing facility for wind turbine blades at Poonamallee, Chennai will be operational in a few days, Bakshi said.
