"Vivo to Launch Operations at Greater Noida Factory by Year's End"
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo is set to begin operations at its new factory in Greater Noida by the end of the year. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to double Vivo's manufacturing capacity, according to a senior company official.
The new plant will support Vivo’s strategy to enhance its focus on India-centric products, localizing design, camera features, and overall user experience. Additionally, the company plans to empower Indian leaders to oversee its operations in the country.
Jerome Chen, CEO of Vivo India, announced that the company's existing Greater Noida facility has achieved the production milestone of over 150 million smartphones. "We are excited to start operations at our new manufacturing facility, which will enable us to double our manufacturing capacity and reinforce our commitment to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'," Chen said.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary in India this week, Vivo has invested ₹3,500 crore and manufactured over 150 million smartphones, including exports worth ₹400 crore since 2022. The company is expected to invest approximately ₹3,000 crore in the new facility and further expansions.
Chen highlighted that the next decade will focus on deepening localization, including manufacturing, the local value chain, and distribution. Vivo is also implementing its "Design for India" initiative to create products tailored to local tastes and preferences. The company is increasing the localization of critical components such as optical image stabilization, camera modules, memory, and OLED displays.
Chen noted the promising future for India as a global economic powerhouse, citing advancements in infrastructure, governance, the financial sector, and progressive policies. He emphasized the growing market demand driven by premiumization and rapid technological adoption.
Vivo India operates more than 70,000 retail touchpoints, over 650 exclusive stores, and 650 service centers, generating approximately 200,000 jobs both directly and indirectly.
