CRS to Inspect Palakkad-Pollachi Rail Line Soon.
Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) S K Mittal will be inspecting the Palakkad-Pollachi railway line in the middle of June, according to Railway officials.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mohan A Menon said that a final date for the inspection was yet to be communicated to the Palakkad division.
Kollengode Rail Passengers Association president Erattu Murugan said, 'When the trains, under this section, were discontinued in 2008, there were five trains running in the north direction and another five trains running in the south direction. Therefore, apart from these 10 train services, we need more trains in this direction.'
He said that many trains from the Palakkad and Salem divisions could be extended to benefit the passengers.
It includes the Palakkad Town-Thiruvananthapuram Amrita Express which could be extended upto Pollachi.
Similarly, there was one train from Pollachi to Tiruchendur at 10.15 am which can start from Palakkad Junction.
Another train from Pollachi to Madurai at 3.30 pm can also begin its journey from Palakkad.
Finally, there was a train to Chennai Central at 4 pm which can also begin from the Palakkad Junction.
The review of the works of the Palakkad -Pollachi rail line was being undertaken by a team led by deputy chief engineer Ramakrishnan based at Podanur at the local-level and by chief administrative officer (projects) Thiru Venkataswamy of the Southern Railway based in Chennai.
The work on this sector is suspended since December 10, 2008. The work on the Palakkad-Pollachi line was undertaken in two phases, Palakkad-Meenakshipuram and Meenakshipuram-Pollachi railway line.
The commissioning of the railway lines will lead to various pilgrim centres like Rameswaram, Madurai, Palani, Guruvayur and Mookambika temples getting connected.
