"Medicity to be Developed in 200 Acres in Chhattisgarh, Boosting Healthcare Infrastructure"..
The Chhattisgarh government is set to develop a world-class Medicity spread over 200 acres in Nava Raipur, the state's upcoming new capital. The project aims to offer top-tier healthcare services with an estimated 5,000-bed capacity, attracting private investment for its execution.
The Medicity will feature a range of health facilities, including multispecialty hospitals, medical colleges, diagnostic centers, hostels, dharamshalas, and hotels, all designed within a commercial integrated development model. According to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the fully-equipped Medicity will not only cater to Chhattisgarh’s healthcare needs but also serve neighboring states.
In addition to providing advanced healthcare, the government plans to position the Medicity as a hub for medical tourism. Efforts are underway to introduce international flights at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, further enhancing the region's accessibility for global visitors. The Chief Minister emphasized that the development of the Medicity near the airport in Nava Raipur’s Atal Nagar would establish Chhattisgarh as a prominent player in international medical tourism.
The state government has designated 200 acres for the project, which is being managed by the Nava Raipur Atal Nagar Development Authority, the agency responsible for the new capital city’s development. Chhattisgarh’s Finance and Housing Minister, O.P. Choudhary, highlighted plans to integrate the Medicity project with central healthcare schemes in the future.
Experts believe that Chhattisgarh's natural resources, particularly its vast forests and rich herbal diversity, position it well to become a leading destination for medical tourism. The state's abundant medicinal plants and potential for ayurvedic research make it an ideal location for opening specialized treatment centers, which could attract international visitors. Herbal tourism is also expected to thrive, with the state’s promotion as a herbal hub boasting over 500 medicinal plant species.
