GMADA's Mohali Greening Initiative: Five World-Class Theme Parks Featuring Rare Indian Flora.

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is undertaking a significant initiative to enhance the greenery and aesthetic appeal of Mohali with the development of five cutting-edge, theme-based parks in the burgeoning IT City sector. This ambitious project, with an estimated cost of ₹13.5 crore, will introduce a Herbal Garden, Rose Garden, Bougainvillea Garden, Palm Garden, and Fragrance Garden to the area.

What distinguishes these parks is their exceptional collection of rare and unique plant species carefully curated from various regions across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kolkata, and Bihar. This diverse collection promises to create vibrant and enriching green spaces for residents and visitors alike.

To ensure the long-term health and beauty of these valuable green assets, the appointed contractor will also be responsible for their maintenance for a period of three years following completion.

Speaking with The Indian Express, Mandeep Singh, Executive Engineer of GMADA’s horticulture department, highlighted the unique features of each garden. “In the Fragrance Garden, we have sourced different plant species from various states, ensuring that every corner of the park offers a distinct and captivating aroma. Our Rose Garden will feature premium rose varieties brought in from Kolkata and Maharashtra, known for their exquisite blooms. The Bougainvillea Garden will be a spectacle of vibrant hues, showcasing even rare double-shade varieties,” he explained.

The landscape design for all five parks is being executed in an international style, transforming them into not only vital green spaces but also visually stunning attractions for the public.

GMADA horticulture officer Gurpal Singh further elaborated on the broader greening efforts in the IT City. “We are also undertaking plantation work worth ₹3 crore along the IT City roads, which includes a comprehensive five-year maintenance plan. Our overarching aim is to transform Mohali into a truly green, beautiful, and eco-friendly city,” he stated, emphasizing the holistic approach to urban greening being adopted by the development authority.
